PSOs and COs

The implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) in 2018 was a significant milestone for the college. The IQAC and TLC of our institution played crucial roles in conducting workshops and trainings to equip the faculty in framing effective POs and COs. The Department Level Monitoring Committee (DLMC) of each department formulated Programme Specific Outcomes (PSOs) based on the learning objectives specified in the University syllabus and aligned them with the core values and mission of the institution. Additionally, DLMC collaborates with the concerned teachers in charge of each course to define Course Outcomes (COs), taking into consideration the Graduate Attributes (GAs) of the college. To ensure easy access to Program Outcomes (POs), Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs), and Course Outcomes (COs), the college employs a comprehensive approach to disseminate this vital information among its students. These crucial elements of the curriculum are communicated through a variety of channels, thereby enhancing students' understanding of the learning objectives. The college employs a multifaceted strategy that encompasses platforms such as the official college website, meticulously crafted printed syllabi, the College Manual replete with detailed information, prominently displayed on departmental notice boards, and strategically positioned within college laboratories for maximum visibility.

Furthermore, the college places great emphasis on acclimating new students to the educational framework right from the outset. As part of the induction program (DEEKSHARAMBH), which is specifically designed for first-year students, the importance of POs, PSOs, and COs is highlighted, ensuring that students comprehend these foundational concepts right from the start of their academic journey. This proactive approach establishes a solid foundation for students, allowing them to align their learning aspirations with the designated outcomes. The Teaching and Learning Cell (TLC) plays a pivotal role in implementing this holistic approach by incorporating specific measures directly into the teaching plan. Notably, the TLC mandates the inclusion of a dedicated session during the initial class where COs are comprehensively communicated to all students. This deliberate step ensures that students are informed about the precise learning objectives associated with their courses right from the very first day, fostering a sense of clarity and purpose in their studies.

In addition to students, the college recognizes the significance of extending this information to other stakeholders. In this pursuit, the institution takes proactive measures to inform alumni and potential employers about the POs, PSOs, and COs through readily accessible information on the college website. Furthermore, the college extends its commitment to transparent communication by familiarizing parents with the Outcome Based Education (OBE) paradigm. This is achieved through comprehensive orientation programs and engaging Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meetings, where parents are equipped with the necessary understanding to actively support their children's educational journey within the context of the established learning outcomes.

Overall, St. Joseph's College for Women prioritizes academic excellence and holistic student development through its focus on Program Outcomes (POs) and Course Outcomes (COs). The implementation of Outcome Based Education (OBE) and transparent communication of learning outcomes demonstrate the college's dedication to providing high quality education. By aligning the teaching learning process with the stated outcomes, the college equips its students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to thrive in the dynamic world beyond academics.
